A Sturdier Way to Replace Missing Teeth

Traditional dentures are often the go-to solution for many patients who are suffering from complete tooth loss. For centuries, these prosthetics have helped individuals recapture their appearance and oral function. But now, thanks to advancements in dentistry, there is a more modern and innovative solution – implant dentures . Held into place using a person’s natural jawbone, these posts fuse with the bone tissues to create a solid foundation for your new smile. What Are Implant Dentures?

Implant dentures are unlike any other type of tooth replacement available. Using regular titanium implant posts that mimic natural tooth roots, these prosthetics are designed to serve as a solid foundation when it comes to supporting your new smile.

Versatile in their ability to address all types of tooth loss, dental implants make it easy for patients to enjoy optimal functionality and aesthetics. But with implant dentures, those who are missing one or both full arches of teeth can embrace a better quality of life once these prosthetics are in place.

When meeting with your implant dentist for a consultation, you will discover there are two types of implant dentures available:

Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

Commonly referred to as a hybrid denture, this fixed prosthetic cannot be removed by anyone other than a dental professional. Held into place with 4-6 dental implant posts, it is necessary that you have the adequate bone density to support these posts. Once fused with the bone tissues, you will be unable to remove the implants, creating a lasting, permanent smile.

Removable Implant Dentures

Also known as Snap-On dentures, these removable prosthetics only require between 2 and 5 implant posts to remain in place. Although you can remove your teeth when cleaning your prosthetics, it is important that you take proper care of them so that they will last as long as possible.

The Implant Denture Process

There are various steps you must complete before being able to enjoy your new implant dentures. You should expect the following when starting the journey toward a new and improved smile:

  • Initial Consultation – You’ll be required to meet with Dr. Ahn for a consultation to determine if you are a candidate for such treatment. It may be that you require preliminary treatments beforehand, such as periodontal therapy or bone grafting.
  • Dental Implant Surgery – We will refer you to a local implant dentist who will perform your minor oral surgery. This will be completed in a different location but will leave you with successful results.
  • Osseointegration – Once you return home from your surgery, you’ll spend the next 3-6 months healing and allowing osseointegration to complete. This is the fusing of the implant with the bone tissues. Once healed, you’ll return to have your metal abutment(s) put into place.
  • Final Placement of Restoration – The final step is to receive your customized denture, which will be secured into place by our highly skilled team. We’ll make sure it looks natural and feels comfortable.

Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

Most patients suffering from complete tooth loss can receive implant dentures; however, it is necessary that we determine the status of your oral and overall health as well as your jawbone density. Having enough support is essential to the long-term success of your new teeth, which is why we will recommend preliminary treatments if they are necessary. Otherwise, you can expect us to give you the green light for oral surgery.
